French’s
Farm is
a typical red brick fenland farmstead that
we lovingly converted into a comfortable family home over 20 years ago.
We wanted to live here because we loved the peace and quiet that is so
difficult to find these days. Our house is 4km from the village of
Dunsby, on a single track road that goes on for another 2km then ends
at a river. Our only neighbours live next to the river and, unless the
farmers are busy, the rush hour consists of our neighbour's car driving
by!
Next to our house is the Granary,
which was a disused barn but is now a beautiful self contained flat for
guests to stay in. The flat is on the first floor of the barn (with
parking below), and the six windows look out over our pond and orchard
on one side and the wonderful view of the fen with low hills in the
distance on the other.
Most of the land on the fen is farmed, but next to us (on both sides)
it is a managed wildlife habitat with ponds that have been created to
encourage wildfowl. Buzzards and herons are frequent visitors here,
competing with our resident barn owls and kestrels for food. We never
tire of seeing spectacular sunsets that fill the sky with an amazing
glow. Click on ‘local nature’. As well as offering tranquility, we can
give language lessons to individuals or families who want to combine a
holiday here with the opportunity to improve their English.
The
Granary a non-smoking
and
pet-free
environment.
